Fiano D'Avellino Clelia Romano 2012: pink quotas and the meritocracy of wine
Forgive me, I am a feminist! I am a feminist because I don't believe in pink quotas, I am a chauvinist because I can't stand women who hide behind rules to exploit them, I am a chauvinist because I hate women who build careers and achieve results by exploiting their good looks, sweet eyes, and the stupidity of certain men, and I can't stand women who use their children as a weapon to blackmail their fathers. These women do harm to women themselves.
Forgive me for being a feminist! I am a feminist because I love competent women, I admire women who make their own way, I like women who work hard, I respect women who choose a career, a family, or both; I adore those who don't feel the need for rules and pink quotas to carve out their space – because they forge their own path without needing anyone.
The world of wine is full of serious, strong, and competent women: Clelia Romano is one of them.
I don't like saying "women with balls" – I find it offensive; certain women don't need balls to be better than many men.
The winery Colli di Lapio was founded in 1994 in Arianello, a hamlet of Lapio, in Irpinia; one of the few places where the D.O.C.G. del Fiano overlaps with that of Taurasi.
A wonderful reality, built on sound family values, an excellent microclimate, and great dedication.
Today we drink one of the great Italian white wines – we are in the presence of the Fiano 2012 Clelia Romano.
Trained on a trellis system in clayey, limestone-rich soil, it is welcomed into the classic Bordeaux bottle after a fermentation of approximately 25 days and aging in stainless steel. Before release it rests in bottle for approximately 4 to 6 months, arriving in our glasses with a brilliant straw-yellow color with greenish reflections.
On the nose, light fruits such as apricot, pineapple, and apple combine with elegant notes of pale flowers such as linden.
On the palate it has a good body, is savory with a good structure; persistent and with a pleasant acidity, it leaves the palate fresh and clean.
I recommend enjoying it paired with a classic: linguine all'astice. Our expert Alessandro Genova tasted the fiano d'avellino 2009 by Clelia Romano, pairing it with a risotto alla zucca.
Price €8–13.
