Kius by Marco Carpineti: Lazio Has Its Sparkling Wines Too

I recently happened to read a list of the "100 best-working wineries." I understand it's not easy to compile such a list, as the author justified himself in responding to some comments; but, before making a catalogue of this type, one should explain the parameters behind the choices. I'm sure the intent was quite different from wanting to offend anyone, but I also found it disrespectful toward those who break their backs among the vines and in the cellars, and toward some much-maligned regions as well. Among these was Lazio, with zero wineries featured on the list!
I don't want to stir up controversy or start drawing up new and different lists – I'm simply sharing my view: I'm against this type of ranking. And I'll add that today I feel like talking again about an excellent and courageous winery from Lazio, that of Marco Carpineti.

Angelo Becchio had already told us about the Nero Buono and was quite impressed by it!
The estate is located in the area between Velletri and Anzio, practices organic farming and cultivates native grape varieties, often forgotten, such as Bellone.

Today we will taste Kius, a brut classic method sparkling wine made from Bellone grapes.

Twenty months on the lees, with organically grown grapes, of course.

The color is a pale straw yellow with golden highlights; countless fine bubbles rise continuously to the surface where, bringing it to the nose, one begins to detect round aromas of yellow fruit, resin, yeast, butter, and bread crust. On the palate it is quite savory and fairly fresh, but the quality I appreciated most is its persistence – though I would have expected it to be a touch more acidic. In conclusion, it has a clean taste that frees the palate and prepares it for another sip or a bite to eat!

Ideal with delicate fish-based dishes that are not too salty, and also good as an aperitif.
