Vertical Tasting of Four Vintages with Collio Bianco Broy

We can't pass by the stand of Collavini, where Manlio and Anna welcome us with warmth and attention. We take part in an extraordinary and unexpected vertical tasting of four vintages of Bianco Broy, one of the crown jewels of this wonderful estate.
The winery is located in Corno di Rosazzo in the province of Udine, although the grapes come from the municipalities of San Floriano and Cormòns in the Collio. The marly and calcareous soils are particularly well-suited to the production of white-berried grapes typical of the area. From this terroir comes the magnificent Collio Bianco Broy, made predominantly from Friulano and Chardonnay grapes, and finally from 20% Sauvignon blanc. The Friulano and Chardonnay undergo a brief appassimento in a fruit loft at 6–8°C before vinification.

Let the wines speak for themselves.

Collio Bianco Broy 2012
Beautiful in its crystalline, deep straw yellow, on the nose the wine immediately strikes with mineral notes, aromas of hawthorn and acacia blossoms, pineapple, and ginger, with vegetal tones on the finish. The acidity is bracing on the palate, where we find minerality and hints of flint. The gustatory-olfactory persistence is particularly long.

Collio Bianco Broy 2011
Golden yellow in color with evident greenish glints, the olfactory profile is characterized by enveloping fruity aromas of ripe papaya and grapefruit, jasmine, orange zest, and sage, with a finish of bitter almond. On the palate it is powerful, with a clean and enveloping fresh-savory component that completely cleanses the palate. A truly monumental wine.

Collio Bianco Broy 2009
Deep golden yellow in color, the wine's olfactory impact is one of great subtlety and complexity. It exudes aromas of ripe tropical fruits of melon and pineapple, acacia honey, white pepper, stone, mint, and balsamic notes on the finish. On the palate it is soft and velvety, still well-supported by a significant acidic backbone. Very long and harmoniously balanced.

Bianco Broy 2007
A deep golden yellow color, the wine is characterized by the richness of its bouquet, with evident notes of grapefruit and apricot jam, saffron and sage, incense, balsamic hints, and mineral tones of flint. On the palate, its intact vivacity is striking, where the savory returns lead us to anticipate a long evolutionary journey still ahead for this magnificent nectar.
What can we say? Little to add. We take our leave with the awareness that this great wine magnificently describes the territory. As well as the constant work of the people behind it.
