Elvio Cogno, wine producer in the terra di Langa, passed away yesterday at 79 at the hospital in Alba after a long illness.
Tradition and quality will live on in his wines, the same tradition that led him to revalue the Anas-Cetta (Nascetta), a historic grape variety native to the municipality of Novello.
He transformed this grape into an elegant and intense wine in the name of his love for his Terroir, which had to and must always be free to express itself in all wines.
The family production continues, featuring four types of Barolo among its highlights, alongside his daughter Nadia.
Elvio, from a young age, was a scholar but above all a passionate devotee of wine and the restaurant industry, so much so that he ventured to the Isle of Man. Enriched by this experience, he returned to Italy where, after various other prestigious professional endeavors that allowed him to meet Veronelli as well, he founded the Elvio Cogno agricultural estate, alongside Nadia and his son-in-law Valter.
With tradition in his heart, he was also one of the first to put vineyard names on his labels, having understood the uniqueness of that territory famous throughout the world.
Later in the 1990s he commercialized Barolo Ravena, the first to carry a geographical designation on its label.
The funeral will be held tomorrow, Tuesday, June 14, at 10:30 am in the church of "San Martino" in La Morra.
