The "biblical wine" comes from Calabria

The pure wine will only be able to be produced from the next harvest and will initially involve the production of at least 200 bottles, an entrepreneurial idea aimed at satisfying foreign demand.

The pure wine or "sacred wine" will be a product of the cantina De Luca, an entire fermentation process that can follow the original rituals of the Old Testament, and that can be comfortably consumed by Jews all over the world, from Israel to the USA. It was precisely in the month of September that the cantina De Luca was subjected to specific inspections by several rabbis who analysed the purity level of the wine produced – the very same wine that many years ago was offered to the winners of the Olympic Games. The entire production cycle will begin with the next harvest; the cantina De Luca will in fact convert its entire production process from ordinary to kosher, meaning pure. Production will amount to around 200 bottles of "sacred" wine, and through the new production method the winery aims to obtain the purity certification for the product in order to enter the market. The De Luca estate, led by Vincenzo De Luca, is located in the hills of Melissa and has a surface area dedicated to the cultivation of vineyards, with 70% dedicated to the production of Gaglioppo, 15% to the production of Greco bianco, and 15% allocated to grape varieties recommended by the Calabria region. Behind the production of an absolutely pure, kosher wine there is only an entrepreneurial spirit, not a religious one – the project grew out of an idea developed during a wine event. There are reportedly numerous consumers of kosher wine, which is why the young entrepreneur began the process of change by thoroughly researching all the requirements needed to obtain a purity certification for the product. In order to obtain the kosher certification, the wine must follow specific processing techniques: all equipment must be washed with water and soda, while people who practice the Jewish faith must be present during various stages of wine production, from bottling to pressing. Furthermore, the grapes used must be no more than five years old. Calabria as a region, and the cantina De Luca above all, has certainly managed to invest in the business and especially in the Calabrian territory – a source of pride for Vincenzo De Luca, who will be able to represent made in Italy around the world, given the numerous requests for kosher wine from the United States.
